Breakdown of the terms

  • SEPA: Stands for Single Euro Payments Area. It's an initiative that allows for the seamless transfer of euro payments between accounts across 36 participating European countries, making it as easy as a domestic transfer.
  • Standard (SCT): Refers to the "SEPA Credit Transfer" scheme, which is the most common type of SEPA payment. It's a "push" payment method where the sender initiates the transfer of funds to your account.
  • Incoming: Indicates that your bank account is the recipient of the payment.

Key characteristics of an incoming SCT payment

  • Full amount: The full amount of the payment will be credited to your account, as any fees are deducted by the sender's bank, not the recipient's.
  • Processing time: Most payments are completed within one business day.
  • Euro only: The transfer must be in euros.
  • Standard vs. Instant: This is the standard credit transfer, which is different from "SCT Inst" (SEPA Instant Credit Transfer), a faster, real-time option for urgent payments.
